I have been suffering with headaches and neck pain for twenty years. I have always needed chiropractic care but it just was not enough. I started massage when I was in my twenties but I always left hurting worse so after doing that for about a year, I gave up on massage. I continued taking up to four ibuprofen when suffering with a headache to deal with the pain (almost every day). In my late twenties, when I was pregnant, I knew I couldn’t continue taking ibuprofen and all the doctor could offer was to take tylenol. Well, that was a joke for me. So I tried acupuncture. I did not get relief but, in desperation, I continued anyway. I kept thinking, just like with everything I tried, one day this will help. After about 8 months, I gave up on acupuncture as well.
Now, in my thirties, all of a sudden my jaw locked up and I couldn’t open it wide enough to eat well so I ended up at the oral surgeon with TMJ disorder. Now I knew my jaw had been attributing to the headaches probably for years. He recommended physical therapy. I started physical therapy and I was able to get my jaw back to a normal opening with minimal jaw pain but I was still having headaches pretty often. Physical therapists use a lot of stretching and strengthening but strengthening always hurts me. I felt like I had improved as much as I could with physical therapy but I still needed more.
I got a certificate for a massage with Misty at Christmas last year but I was hesitant to go because I had already tried massage. After thinking about it, I figured I might as well. I have a certificate to use and if I don’t like it or I hurt afterwards, I just won’t go back. Well, thank goodness I went because, WOW, I finally found someone who could help me and knew how to work on MY muscles! She used cupping to help relax my muscles and begin training them to relax. She knows how to work on my muscles without making me hurt worse. I went from having headaches almost daily to once a week and now I am only having headaches about once to twice a month. I recently found out I have joint hypermobility disorder which, for me, means that my muscles are always working harder than they should to keep joints where they should be. With that being said, I will always have some achy days but with Misty on my side, they will be at a minimum! Thank you Misty! You are the BEST!
